Adventures with Two
Here's a story that's funny (I guess) in hindsight but not so much at the time... Today Daniel, Kyra and I ventured to the new Children's Museum with a friend and her son. The timing worked out great -- we visited the museum, went for a snack and it was time for Daniel to fall asleep in the car; Kyra wasn't due to eat until right after we got home and I got Daniel to bed... the best laid plans... When I put Daniel in the car to head home, he asked for my keys. I said "No, I need them." He asked again and I gave them to him, closed the door and went to get Kyra from the stroller and into the car. That's when I noticed that Daniel had pushed the LOCK button on the key. I realized all the doors were locked, Daniel was in the car and my bag with my phone was also in the car. I ran with Kyra in her carseat across the parking lot to catch my friend before she left. I ran back with Kyra in tow and began to talk through the window to get Daniel to push the buttons on the key again. He had the keys in one hand and another toy in the other. I knew if he dropped the keys, I was in trouble. He looked at me, wondering what on earth I was talking about. By this time, Kyra was awake and crying. Finally, after 5 minutes or more of coaching, I got Daniel to focus on the keys and to push the 'red' button which was the car alarm. He was startled initially and then enjoyed the "Beep Beep". After that, I said, "Push all the buttons" over and over until he pushed the buttons to open the doors... I am so happy that he is a smartie and could figure this out but am certainly not proud that I managed to get myself into that situation... I can blame it on sleep deprivation, though. Kyra was up for almost 4 hours last night -- Matt and I shared that time but we're trying to help her understand daytime vs. nighttime -- I suppose it doesn't really matter when all you do is eat, sleep and poop! She does seem to have mastered these skills, though.
