School play

Last night was Daniel's school play. His class was dressed up like animals (Daniel was a Panda) and were to sing "Luby Loo". They've been practicing and the kids all knew to sing loudly (i.e. screaming) for the performance since it was being held in a theatre. His teachers had told us how he does his "dance" during the song. So all the kids shuffled out and the song began -- Daniel began his dance (which was hilarious) and most of the other kids did nothing. Eventually, some of the kids began to add in the body movements that went along with the song ("You put your right hand in, You put your right hand out...") but Daniel just kept dancing. I don't think any of them sang a word. It was wonderful! We have video and my plan was to download it to DVDs tonight -- but maybe over the weekend.

What's to say?

I started a post earlier this week but didn't really have much new to report. Daniel's still not consistently sleeping which is aggravating but he's doing really well otherwise. Next Tuesday is his school play and his teacher says he knows all the words to the song they will sing and even has his own dance. It will be interesting when the kids get out there and see all the parents in the audience and has the lights shining down on them. They evidently did a dress rehearsal today and the teacher mentioned the "audience" and one kid asked "What's an audience?" We won the raffle for tickets in the first couple of rows so that will be fun to be close up and be able to get good video!

Kyra's a riot and probably going to be more of a trouble maker than Mr. D. Now when you say "no" she fusses and then tries to hit you. Not exactly the behavior we expect but she's learning. When you say "gentle hands," she pets your hair softly and then harder and harder until she's hitting again. As the pediatrician says, "She's a second child; she'll get her attention somehow." She is so funny and adorable, though! I love her hugs and her giggles and watching her learn. This age is really my favorite because they learn so much -- she tries to mimic a lot of words - tonight she tried to say "marmelade" from a book daddy was reading to her.

Back in the Swing

Wow, it's been forever since my last post. We had my family in town in mid-February and then a trip to see Matt's family. Right after I returned, we had a group of Matt's friends visit to check out the restaurant. It has been a nutty few weeks. I'm finally feeling back to normal! Daniel always has a tough time adjusting back to regular sleep habits after we return from Grandma and Grandpa's -- he's waking up in the middle of the night multiple times. Kyra has had croup this week -- and has slept through the night each night of her wheezing and coughing... Believe it or not. Potty training is going well. Kyra has learned lots of words and some bad habits from big brother such as hitting. When you say "no" to her, she'll point at you and say "no" back... funny, but not so much! She's one of those kids that makes a point of her right to do things -- her playdough eating for instance: I say "Kyra, don't eat the playdough" and move toward her to take it. She quickly shoves it into her mouth. I say, "Kyra, don't play in the kitty's water" and walk toward her to remove her. She immediately begins splashing the water everywhere with a coy smile on her face. It appears to be a reaction of "I want to see you make me."
