Made it home

We had a very nice long Thanksgiving holiday and arrived home today. The kids were great on the plane but the time change is always challenging. We had hoped/planned to keep the kids up until their usual bedtime here but around 6pm decided it was time to start bathtime. Daniel fell into hysterics and said "I don't want to go to Florida anymore - it ruins my day." I took him to his map and explained time zones... not sure he got it... but it's 6:30 and they're both asleep. It should be an early morning tomorrow...

Beds and Chairs

We're trying to move Kyra into her big-girl bed. It's a daybed so the first couple of nights we turned it around so it was like a crib. This seemed to work okay but doesn't really solve the problem of her being in a crib and learning to sleep in an open bed. Last night, we turned it around. She made me stay in her room, sitting in the rocker, until she fell asleep. Then she woke up at 10pm and 3am -- both times, easily went back to sleep. At 5;30 I heard her open the door to her room (yes, she quickly learned to open doors after she learned she could escape). I went to her room to check on her and found her sitting quietly with her blankie at the top of the stairs. When I tried to put her back to bed, she kept saying "chair" -- so now there's a precedent of sitting in the chair while she goes to sleep in the big-girl bed. I did refuse at 5:30 am to do this but lay down on the floor next to her bed which satisfied her. Needless to say, neither of us went back to sleep but she stayed there quietly. Tonight I went to put her in her big-girl bed and she said "crib" so that's where she's sleeping tonight.

Stories

Tonight Daniel was really tired so rather than read books I suggested we get in bed and I'd tell him stories. We used to do this when he was younger but haven't for awhile. So I told him three stories which he loved (Luke and Daniel stories of course). Then he wanted to tell me stories -- it was so much fun to hear him make up stories and the logic and processing that goes through that head! By the time we were done, he was so excited, he couldn't go to sleep...

Kyra is talking a ton. She does 2-3 word sentences pretty well and is really funny. She and Daniel laugh together (and scream together and at one another)... She's also able to jump now - both feet off the ground and LOVES it!

Halloween

Of course I had to post on Halloween. Here are some shots of the kids out at play. I don't think the photos do Kyra's unicorn costume justice. She was funny -- it took her about 2 houses to figure out wha the deal was -- after that, she was grabbing more candy than anyone else. Daniel and Luke had a blast together as usual -- this picture is so fabulous!
