Christmas activities

Yesterday was finally feeling like Christmas is here. We went to the local little mall to see Santa -- yes, on the last Saturday before Christmas -- and the line was only about 20 minutes. I gave Daniel the choice to see Santa again last Monday and his response was "No, I already told him what I wanted." Kyra's been terrified of Santa but she wanted to go see him so we went (yes, on the last Saturday before Christmas). The kids did really well in the line and Kyra even sat in Santa's lap -- after a little candy cane bribe. She did great.

Saturday evening we went to Seattle's Candy Cane Lane which is a small neighborhood that decks out their homes with lights and decorations and have been doing so for 40 years. We brought hot chocolate and cookies to snack on during our outing. It was nice but I think this is much over-hyped. This wasn't anywhere near "over the top" when it comes to decorations but the homes in the neighborhood were nice. It was a nice outing but only took us about 10 minutes to go through -- and 45 minutes to get there and back... the kids enjoyed the hot chocolate in the car on the way home.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Oh Christmas Tree

No, we didn't cancel Christmas but there was a pretty high probability of it for a couple of days. It must have just been the kids trying to adjust back to being home and the time change. Matt picked up a tree on Monday during a brief respite from the pouring rain. The kids and I decorated it on Tuesday and it looks lovely -- except for the LED lights which seemed like a good idea (cooler, energy saving) but don't twinkle or illuminate at all. Oh well.

Fortunately, this part of the State only got downpours of rain without the torrential winds along with it. We didn't have a lot of wind or damage in this area but other parts of the State were really devastated.

No Christmas Tree

We ventured out to cut our own tree today and found that our kids are either 1) too young; 2) still jetlagged; or 3) just too self centered to participate in such an activity. They were both cranky and crying the entire time. The first place we went had no trees of any worth and the second place (yes, we ventured to a second place despite the frustration of the crying kids and no trees) had trees but the kids were such a disaster that we didn't even believe that we would have a tree at all given that behavior -- cancelling Christmas altogether was the next step. Anyway, we still have no tree but we did have a fair amount of snow (for Seattle) -- 2 inches. Daniel enjoyed playing in the snow -- Kyra stood outside and cried. Here are some pictures of cranky kids and Daniel playing in the snow. Did I mention that I'm sad we don't have a tree yet?
